Our 165 acre property perches one thousand feet above the Arenal Valley on a mountain ridge just six kilometers north of the active volcano, but safely outside the government declared danger zone. The hotel’s higher altitude relative to other hotels in the area allows for not only incomparable views of the Arenal Volcano, the lush Arenal River Valley, and the surrounding towns that sparkle at night, but also access to the area’s famous prevailing breezes. Families are sure to enjoy the water slide, signature putt-putt course, kids’ game lounge and our Club Rio Adventure Center offering river tubing, kayaking, horseback riding, rock climbing, hot springs and our amazing Animal Sanctuary.
Natural Hot Mineral Springs, Pools and Waterfalls
Our free form, landscaped pools provide our guests with great views of the volcano and a multitude of options. With temperatures ranging from 83 degrees Fahrenheit to 104 degrees Fahrenheit and environments that vary from raging waterfalls to tranquil forest experiences, our guests can find the perfect pool for their mood and the current weather conditions. Tests of our hot mineral springs reveal an ideal natural combination of high bicarbonate and high chlorides with relatively low sulfur content to provide a safe and clean soaking experience.
The Sanctuary Spa and Fitness Center
Our fourteen thousand square foot full-service luxury Spa is committed to providing unique and relaxing treatments to replenish your mind, body and soul. Massages, facials, body wraps, manicures and pedicures are offered in a luxurious and holistic setting administered by trained professionals with the latest technology. Our Spa menu utilizes tropical botanical ingredients indigenous to Costa Rica as well as a variety of therapeutic volcanic clays harvested from our property.
Club Rio Adventure Center
Club Rio Outdoor Center is located directly below the resort along our beautifully forested, mile long stretch of Arenal River frontage. With its eight different soft adventure activities, Club Rio is perfect for all ages and is a “Must See” amenity of the resort. The fact that all of these activities are offered in one location and onsite is a fantastic amenity for our guests. Some of these tours and activities include Inflatable River Kayaking, River Tubing, Horseback Riding, Rock Climbing and Rappelling, Wildcat Feeding, Nature Tours, Hot Springs, and Fishing. Before and after the scheduled tours, we encourage our guests to walk the hiking trails leading to secluded, natural hot springs just feet away from the river’s edge.
Animal Sanctuary
Club Rio features Arenal’s finest animal sanctuary. In conjunction with the MINAE (Ministry of the Environment and Energy) we operate a preserve for Costa Rican wildlife that have been confiscated from poachers or donated by other private reserves, rescue centers or individuals. Our Wildlife Sanctuary Tour gives our guests the opportunity to experience a large array of Costa Rican wildlife living in beautiful, natural habitats all in one easily accessible location.

Our award-winning chef, José Rojas, endeavors to embrace the true flavors of the country with organic fruits and vegetables grown specifically for us on neighboring farms, and his menus incorporate the best local offerings of seafood found bountifully on both the Pacific and Caribbean coasts of the country.
